What does it mean to be grateful? When you are grateful, you acknowledge everything that you are given. When you are grateful, you notice simple pleasures. When you are grateful, you count your blessings, and you are thankful. When you are grateful, you live your life seeing miracles everywhere, and you are aware of everything you have been given. When you are grateful, you are happier, your relationships are stronger, and your health improves.
Studies show that gratitude deeply enhances your quality of life. People who live their lives with gratitude experience less stress and depression, are more likely to help others, and make greater progress toward achieving personal goals.
So how can we be more grateful? The first thing is to notice everything around you that you typically take for granted. Are you in an air conditioned/heated room right now? Are you wearing clothes? Do you have access to running water? Do you have food in your pantry? Do you have the ability to get food when you need it? Do you have shelter? These are all things we take for granted every day, but these are all things we can be grateful for.
Another thing you can do is to appreciate the little things. Did you get to work today in a vehicle? Did you wake up and take a shower? Did you brush your teeth? You should celebrate your accomplishments even if they are small. When you appreciate each accomplishment, you will be more appreciative of the big accomplishments.
There are many different ways to keep track of the things you are grateful for. One of the most popular things to do is to keep a gratitude journal. It’s nice to fill the pages with things that you are grateful for and then you can go back over your book and look at all of the blessings that life has to offer you.
