I Can’t Do It
These are four words I haven’t said too often and it’s also rare that any of my family members ever say them. I’ve been fortunate enough to be surrounded by people who know deep down they can do what they want if they just put their minds to it. Just because they aren’t doing X,Y, or Z doesn’t mean they can’t do it but rather they chose not to.
Our accomplishments are varied and as diverse as we are. No one accomplishment is better than any other. We’re at very different stages of our lives and we’ve all worked hard to get to where we are. And I’m proud of everyone of them as well!
So where are you at in your life? Do you find yourself saying “I can’t do it”, when it should actually be “I don’t want to do it”? Do you look down your nose at people who should be doing more because they have “so much potential”? Before you get too critical of others and what they are or aren’t doing remember it could be by choice.
When it comes to yourself, quiet your inner critic. If you want to do something go for it. Don’t talk yourself out of it before you even start. I worked hard on silencing mine during the creation of Listbean. Negative thoughts kept going round and round in my head and I’m glad now that I didn’t listen since Listbean is being really well received.
You may be pleasantly surprised if you rid these four little words from your vocabulary.
What amazing things do you want to do that are currently being squashed by these negative thoughts?

Funny! I have been thinking about something similar lately. When I hear myself saying “I can’t do that!” or “No way!”, I decide to write it down, and to just do it! To tackle it one at a time!
I think FEAR is a big reason why we talk ourselves out of things.
So sometimes we have to JUST DO IT and conquer the FEAR. Even if the outcome isn’t classed to others as “successful”, we can view it as a success because swallowed our fear and did it anyway.

When I first saw the title in my inbox, the first thing that I shouted (in my head!) was YES YOU CAN! And for some reason it made me think if the Bob the Builder cartoon, can we fix it? Yes we can!! Who knew we could learn something from a kids cartoon!
I learnt a while ago to subsitute can’t, with choose not to, and that simple change is so empowering. I genuinely believe anyone can do whatever they want, as long as they are willing to put in time, effort, more time and more effort.
Many thanks,
Kate
A four word affirmation that can break fear and take on apathy. Four life changing words. Who would have thought it so simple? You did Sherri! Brilliant, powerful and easy for anyone to do. The posts I love best.
