True Happiness – It’s More Than a Fake Smile
Happiness is not a measure of what you have in a bank account, investment portfolio or safety deposit box.
It’s not how big your home is or many cars you can fit in your garage.
Happiness does not lie in keeping up with the Joneses or even surpassing them.
Happiness is not a measure of the number shoes or designer clothes that inhabit your closet and it’s not even a trouble-free, worry-free, or stress-free life.
Happiness isn’t something off in the distance that once you get this done or once that is in order it will suddenly wash over you and then you’ll be happy.
Happiness is wanting what you already have and it’s within you right now. Happiness is a choice.
True happiness can be found in living true to yourself, doing your best and having no regrets.
Happiness and true joy are largely found in the little things, the simple pleasures in life.
Look at how far you’ve come to get to where you are today. Look ahead to tomorrow and see how far you have yet to go. Advance in a positive direction with contentment and joy in your mind and heart and you will find your happiness.
Where do you think true happiness lies?

Thanks for the reminder, Sherri. Happiness *is* a choice, and we can choose it whenever we want it. It’s easy to forget that, and lose our happiness, and so we all need reminders such as this one from time to time.

Happiness is definitely a choice and it’s something that I try to choose every single day. Not everything that happens to me in my life necessarily makes me happy, but I do my best to have a positive attitude about it. I really enjoyed reading your reflections on happiness!

Happiness cannot be chosen as you choose an orange out of a bunch of lemons. It’s more about what we do with those lemons. Does anybody fancy lemonade?

For me true happiness comes with living in the moment. It comes through laughter and love. It comes through doing things that are dear to me… it comes through Gratitude and appreciate what I have and those around me. Happiness for me comes through giving. Thanks for waking us up with the true meaning of happiness.
Great post! Keep them coming!!

For me happiness is summed up in the following quote from Leo Babauta:
“Stop waiting for happiness. Happiness is right here, right now.”
Its about appreciating what you have right now in this present moment, not the future and certainly not the past. I have a heart-covered charm on my Pandora bracelet that reminds me of this quote every day.
Thanks for reminding me again
Thanks for this beautiful post! I believe happiness comes as we seek after peace in our hearts, our homes, and our communities. I like this quote by the Dalai Lama: “If you want others to be happy, practice compassion. If you want to be happy, practice compassion.”

I believe that happiness cannot be without sorrow. Finding happiness alone without embracing our adversities can put our search in vain; for happiness is what comes after the experience of disappointments.
Hi Sherri,
You have described it simply, quite straight and a lovely way. I believe, living true to yourself is the root of the happiness. At any situation, happiness with us if we are honest to our conscience.
Thanks a lot ! Have a nice day !

Very inspiring and true thoughts. True happiness I think comes by accepting what you have and who you are. As you have said, true happiness is about living in the present.

Hi Sherri,
Your post resonates to me especially after coming back from a serious car accident and then seeing my wife giving birth to our little baby girl this past week reminds me of how precious life really is.
I am happy to have survived and I am even happier to have witnessed the birth of our baby girl.
She is now my world.
Beautiful post Sherri.

Sherri, amazing isn’t it that reading a post about happiness puts a smile on your face. Happiness like laughter is infectious. Spending time reading happy articles and books, being with happy people and where laughter is regular, helps you catch some of the stuff. That and enjoying where you are, every moment, and appreciating all that you DO have not that you don’t is the key. Whenever we go through a trial or trauma we ask for things to go becak to normal – the everyday where, at heart, we are happy. Happiness is, just is!
