  1. Thanks for the post! This reminds me of when my son was just old-enough to really dislike chores, we’d have a race. It was called 10 Minute Pick-Up! I’d set the timer for 10 minutes, and we would each see how many ‘things’ laying around, out of place, we could pick up and put away. He was smart enough that he could find a pile of clothes that needed to be put away, and count each pair of socks as one item. Of course it didn’t matter that I always lost…we had fun, he LOVED beating me, and we got a quick clean-up! :) Wonder if I can get my husband to fall for the same game???

  2. Thanks for this post Sherri! I definitely belong to the type of people who do not like cleaning. After doing home repairs for a month continuously I am officially tired of Windex, Clorox, mops and vacuum cleaners. I do love living in a clean house so I’ll definitely use your ideas.
I get much more excited about cleaning up the yard and working outside in spring. This yard work always feel like big awakening to me and it tells me “Hooray! It’s spring and summer will be here soon to!”

  3. @ Jane – I love the race game. My mom used to play it with me and then I played it with my youngest sister (I’m sure she hates me for it now lol). It’s a goo tactic to get them excited and actually do it. Most kids love a competition!

@ Anastasiya – I’m totally with you! I enjoy being outside, gardening and such that’s why I try to get most of my inside spring cleaning done on days that it’s a little chilly or rainy outside … like today :) Good luck and I hope some of these ideas get you motivated.

  4. Hardest part for me sometime when I am tired and sleepy, is to get motivated to actually start the cleaning. However once I start, it is lot easier. I like the loud music idea. We also do 10 minutes tidy, clean up everything you can in 10 minutes, it is amazing how much can be done!

That sounds like fun, Sherri! I need to come to your house for spring cleaning.

    …unless I can train the cats…

  6. My DH is never pumped about cleaning. :|
I think I need a few of your negotiating techniques. ;)
