What’s Your Greatest Fear?
I’ll tell you right now I’m not really into poetry. I suppose a more fair statement would be I have yet to find a style of poetry that resonates with me and that I can get my head around. I came across this poem though and I thought it was beautiful.
Poetry is very personal what is liked by one won’t necessarily be liked by another, as with a lot of things in life.
I like this piece of writing because it focuses on our extreme greatness. How we shouldn’t be scared to live and do great things because it may make others look bad.
You deserve to be happy, to be the best you can be and to shine! Never apologize for working hard, going after what you want and for being successful.
I want to share this poem with you and hopefully it inspires you to go on and do great things.
Our Greatest Fear —Marianne Williamson
It is our light not our darkness that most frightens us
Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate.
Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.
It is our light not our darkness that most frightens us.
We ask ourselves, who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous,
talented and fabulous?
Actually, who are you not to be?
You are a child of God.
Your playing small does not serve the world.
There’s nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other
people won’t feel insecure around you.
We were born to make manifest the glory of
God that is within us.
It’s not just in some of us; it’s in everyone.
And as we let our own light shine,
we unconsciously give other people
permission to do the same.
As we are liberated from our own fear,
Our presence automatically liberates others.

Wonderful poem, it is true indeed that we are born to make great things. We just need to accept the fact that we have all the power in the world to do anything we want.
Even something that looks small, done the right way, turns into beauty that inspire others.

Well, for someone who’s not much into poetry, you sure picked a good one! It’s very powerful, and very beautiful. I love this message…that we are powerful vessels of goodness, and that only by expressing that goodness can we live up to our full potential and enrich the universe with our presence in it.

A beautiful poem. We need to try to remember that we were meant to inspire others and by being the best we can we do that. Thanks for sharing.

I first became aware of Marianne when before she wrote her first book. Then after she published her book, Return to Love I saw her on Oprah. I called my hubs that day and said, “I could have written that book.” And he said “Tess, no one is stopping you from picking up your pencil!” That’s how my book, “Flying By The Seat Of My Soul” was born.
I still admire her today. Because she writes her Truth her books are timeless.

This is a great poem! I have this fear so often. This puts that fear in perspective – that if we shine, it gives others the permission to shine also. I like that!
