A Change Of Scenery May Be All You Need
A while ago I wrote about how I was feeling as though I was stuck in a rut and in fact asked all of you for help on getting out of it. Your suggestions were all amazing. You had everything from mini adventures and “me time” to striking up a conversation with a complete stranger and getting away for some peace at a lake house. Sounds lovely doesn’t it?
What I have found to work for me is a change of scenery. Big changes or little ones it doesn’t matter but a change none the less.
When it comes to being stuck on what to write, for example, I try taking it outside, into the living room or sit at the dining room table. It’s amazing how such a tiny change in location can unlock a whole bunch of great ideas and renew your energy level.
If you’re feeling rather unmotivated, stuck or other wise unhappy consider making a small change.
- sit on the other side of your desk
- read in the lunch room
- if you have a laptop top try working in a boardroom for an afternoon
- spend an afternoon at a coffee shop
- sit outside on the grass
- face a window
- use a different pen
- move your studio to the garage for a week
- try working at home
- spend some time tweaking the appearance of your computer (desktop pictures, menu colors, fonts etc …)
- hang meaningful pictures around your office
There are a ton of things you can do to change the scenery of your everyday. Making a small change has the power to unleash huge creative potential. Give it a try the next time you’re stuck or are in need of a little change. It can do wonders.

WHAT’S WRONG WITH MY RUT, SHERRI?
Actually, since we’ve just returned to our home after being six months at my mother-in-law’s I have a GREAT appreciation for how our surroundings effect us mentally and emotionally.
These are great suggestions!

Wonderful set of ideas Sherri, It is true, environment can truly affect how we work. For added benefits I would suggest changing a bit the layout of your house from time to time.
Always the same vase over the counter, place a picture and move the vase to another place. Those small changes could unlock that creativity and make you feel comfortable but different at the same way.
It works for me and I really hope it works for you.
Thanks for sharing this wonderful post!

Yep definately being able to change things up keeps things fresh. It reminds me of P90x and the fitness regime which stimulates muscle growth through changing up the routine
