[...] What is really harmful to families, and any relationship for that matter, is the inability to see past these differences, these unique ways and reconcile. It’s our pride that gets in the way most of the time. The feeling to prove that we were right and they were wrong. But when you both dig your heals in and decide not to budge no one ever wins. As I’ve said before life is various shades of gray. [...]

Judging is having opinions with very little information.
However when you do not like a certain behavior, besides not judging the person, you can always choose no play and not asscociate with them rather than pick a fight or put up with behavior you do not like.

Dale Carnegie had said once "if you had life and experience of some one, you will feel and behave the same way", sums it up. There is no good or evil, like you said. Nice post.

I'm glad you enjoyed it. It's not an easy exercise in the least. It's easier to hide and stay mad and be "right" but it's not the most conducive to your happiness.

Thanks for all your comments!

So true, Sherri. We tend to take a little slice of people's lives (the one we can see from where we are standing on this particular day) and paint a completely picture about them. Really what we see on that day is one tiny piece of a many-thousand piece puzzle, and we have NO idea what the rest of them are like.

The only benefit of judging others is so that we can feel self-righteous... and that doesn't do anyone any good.

Good and interesting post! It's so easy to let the 'bad' side of someone overshadow their positive attributes so your suggested exercise is a very helpful one.

Great post. Things are not positive or negative. As the bard said (paraphrasing) nothing is good or bad, only thinking makes it so!

I've written about this topic before because I think it's SO important. It's so easy to try to think of things as "good" or "bad" but it's almost always more complicated than that. Really great post. I loved the way you addressed this!
