Move.
Move.
If you are feeling lazy or devoid of energy, move. You’ve likely experienced it – you don’t feel like doing something but when you’re done you feel amazing, energized and invigorated. Move.
If you hear a song with a great beat, move. It doesn’t matter where you are – a mall, a park, your living room; if you feel it – dance like no one is watching.
If you are bored, move. Find an activity that engages your mind, body and spirit. Get back to an old hobby or do something you’ve always wanted to do but have been putting it off, it’s an instant cure for boredom.
If you want to feel alive, move. Get up out of your chair go on a nature walk, become acutely aware of your surroundings the sights, the sounds, the smells – take it all in as you move along.
If you want to get closer to someone, move. Take initiative and make the first move. Give a hug, hold a hand, or simply ask how you can be of help.
If you are feeling a little disconnected from yourself, move. Slow down with yoga, Pilates or tai chi. Become aware of your body as you move slowly and deliberately. Get in touch with yourself and reclaim your spirit.
If you want to lose those last few stubborn pounds, move. The only way, apart from cutting calories, that will help you shed those last 10 pounds is to move. Get active – walk to the store, ride your bike around town or walk the dog.
If life stinks, move.
Be an active participant in your life. Live deliberately and if something isn’t working for you, make a conscious choice to move towards something that does work for you. Life changes, circumstances change don’t be afraid to move with those tides.
This post was inspired by Zen Habits’ Breathe. A brilliant post so check it out! Breathing is essential in slowing down, calming down, remaining focused and living in the moment – and so is moving. Get up and get energized. Move.

Upbeat music always has a way of making me more energized.
I also have a play list I specially made for those time, I feel bored or drained out of energy.
I hate to admit it, sometimes even if I am seated, I sway a bit to all these songs… Folks at office tease me a lot for this ;-0)

Beautiful!! Thank you for sharing and giving me encouragement! I love your paragraph that starts with Life stinks… perfect!

@ Shamelle – That’s great it’s amazing how music can soothe the spirit and be uplifting and energizing all at the same time.
@ Chele – I’m glad you liked it. Especially the last one
Sherri, this is really great! I KNOW that movement helps unstick me, loosen me up and get my creativity flowing. I KNOW it does. But somehow I forget just when I need to remember it most. I appreciate the reminder …

@ Ian – Fantastic! I’m glad you liked it. Get up and get going sometimes it’s all the kick in the butt you need.
I think I find moving most important when I really don’t want to do it. When I compel myself to start, life gets much easier somehow.

Do you know something? I have made some research that shows that couches have a strange kind of glue. The more time you are sitting on one of those, the harder it is to stand up and move.
Miguel de Luis Espinosa´s last blog ..Exercise made fun: the Heroes of Leothendrail
@ Jamie – You’re exactly right! When you really don’t want to move it’s all the more difficult to get going…but afterwards you’re usually thankful you did.
@ Miguel de Luis Espinosa – That’s fantastic research!
I can certainly validate those results. Spending less time on the couch can really help with that…do it less often and it won’t become a habit. Thanks for your comment!
Wonderful post on moving! It’s so important to do (especially when we don’t feel like it) and you’ve made some great arguments for movement here!

Awesome! I really like this advice! the only thing that I would add is that you don’t have to wait until you “happen” to hear a song in order to move. Pop in a CD (or listen you your mp3 player) and give yourself a reason to move!

@ Jay – You’re exactly right!!! Take initiative on that too give yourself a reason I love it!!
I feel like I HAVE to move through a good portion of my day… otherwise I become so sedentary, that when it DOES come time to do something, I’m lacking the energy to do so!
It’s a funny thought but extremely true… the more you move, the more energy you actually have. It’s when you sit around all day that your melatonin levels increase and you begin to feel sluggish and lazy.

@ Travis- Welcome!! It is odd how the more you move the more energy you have, seems counterintuitive but it really works that way. I’m glad you liked this post and thank you for your comment!
